Semenanjung ini berbatasan dengan Teluk Oman dan Teluk Persi (Teluk Arab) di sebelah Timur, Laut Merah di sebelah Barat, Lautan India di sebelah Selatan, Irak dan Syiria di sebelah Utara. Meskipun daerah ini bisa dihitung sebagai daerah yang dikelilingi laut, namun daerahnya hampir 5\/6 merupakan padang pasir atau sahara yang tandus dan luas seakan tak terbatas serta tidak tampak ada tumbuh-tumbuhan yang rindang di kebanyakan daerah ini.<\/span><a name=\"_ftnref1\" href=\"http:\/\/syariah.uin-malang.ac.id\/#_ftn1\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"line-height: 200%; font-size: 12pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;\">[1]<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> Di tempat ini juga sangat jarang mendapatkan curah hujan yang mengakibatkan iklimnya menjadi salah satu negeri terkering dan terpanas di dunia. Bahkan, sungai-sungai yang berada di daerah ini sering mengalami kekeringan dan hanya tanpak digenangi air ketika musim hujan.<\/span><a name=\"_ftnref2\" href=\"http:\/\/syariah.uin-malang.ac.id\/#_ftn2\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"line-height: 200%; font-size: 12pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;\">[2]<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> Dalam kondisi geografis yang seperti itu, masyarakat daerah ini tanpak miskin dan sering terjadi saling merampas harta, bahkan mereka membunuh anaknya sendiri karena takut miskin. Hal ini nantinya yang direformasi al-Qur&rsquo;an dengan memberikan peraturan larangan perampasan terhadap harta orang dengan jalan yang tidak benar dan larangan membunuh anak karena merasa hawatir akan kemiskinan.<\/span><a name=\"_ftnref3\" href=\"http:\/\/syariah.uin-malang.ac.id\/#_ftn3\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"line-height: 200%; font-size: 12pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;\">[3]<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-justify: inter-ideograph; text-align: justify; text-indent: 36pt; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: \"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Dalam pembentukan keluarga, bangsa Arab mengikuti dua model perkawinan, perkawinan <em>Ba&rsquo;al <\/em>dan <em>Shadiqah<\/em>. Perkawinan <em>Ba&rsquo;al<\/em> adalah perkawinan yg didasari kepada dua model perkawinan, hasil penangkapan dan persetujuan antara pihak laki-laki dan perempuan. Dalam perkawinan model ini perempuan dan anaknya dikuasai oleh klein laki-laki setelah pembayaran mahar, yang maksudnya sebagai uang pembelian atau pengganti, kepada keluarga (wali) perempuan. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-justify: inter-ideograph; text-align: justify; text-indent: 36pt; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: \"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Perkawinan <em>Shadiqah <\/em>adalah perkawinan yang didasari pada kesepakatan pihak laki-laki dan perempuan. Dalam model ini ada yang disebut dengan perkawinan <em>Benna<\/em> dan <em>Mut&rsquo;ah<\/em>. Dalam perkawinan <em>Benna<\/em> perempuan tetap menjadi kliennya sendiri, sehingga perempuan mempunyai &ldquo;kemerdekaan&rdquo; dan kebebasan di bawah perlindungan laki-laki dari kliennya sendiri.<\/span><a name=\"_ftnref4\" href=\"http:\/\/syariah.uin-malang.ac.id\/#_ftn4\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"line-height: 200%; font-size: 12pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;\">[4]<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> Pada masa awal Islam, beberapa model perkawinan Arab pra Islam ini masih dipertahankan, seperti perkawinan melalui penangkapan perang dan kawin mut&rsquo;ah.<\/span><a name=\"_ftnref5\" href=\"http:\/\/syariah.uin-malang.ac.id\/#_ftn5\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"line-height: 200%; font-size: 12pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;\">[5]<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> Akan tetapi, model-model perkawinan yang dianggap tidak bisa membentuk tatanan sosial yang solid tidak lagi diberlakukan dalam masyarakat Islam. Oleh karenanya, semua bentuk perkawaninan Arab tradisional tidak ada lagi dilaksanakan dalam masyarakat Islam, kecuali model perkawinan <em>ba&rsquo;al<\/em>.<\/span><a name=\"_ftnref6\" href=\"http:\/\/syariah.uin-malang.ac.id\/#_ftn6\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"line-height: 200%; font-size: 12pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;\">[6]<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-justify: inter-ideograph; text-align: justify; text-indent: 36pt; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: \"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Adapun bangunan struktur masyarakat bangsa Arab didasari dengan pembentukan klein, dimana klein tersebut terbentuk dari keluarga-keluarga yang hidup di tenda-tenda. Satu perkemahan dari tenda-tenda tersebut membetuk sebuah komunitas yang mereka sebut dengan <em>hayy<\/em>, dimana anggota-anggota <em>hayy<\/em> kemudian membentuk sebuah suku (<em>qawm<\/em>). Sejumlah gabungan dari <em>qawm <\/em><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;<\/span>selanjutnya hidup berlompok dan membentuk satu kabilah. Dari kabilah-kabilah lahir sebuah komunitas masyarakat yang mereka sebut dengan <em>banu<\/em> yang mayoritasnya diambil dari jalur laki-laki,<span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"> <a name=\"_ftnref7\" href=\"http:\/\/syariah.uin-malang.ac.id\/#_ftn7\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"line-height: 200%; font-size: 12pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;\">[7]<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span> hanya sebagian yang sangat kecil dari masyarakat Arab yang diasumsikan mengambil dari jalur perempuan (matrilineal).<\/span><a name=\"_ftnref8\" href=\"http:\/\/syariah.uin-malang.ac.id\/#_ftn8\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"line-height: 200%; font-size: 12pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;\">[8]<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-justify: inter-ideograph; text-align: justify; text-indent: 36pt; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: \"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Sekalipun sulit menemukan bukti sejarah yang dapat mendukung asumsi ini, cara penulisan biografi pra dan masa awal Islam cukup menjadi bukti kuat bahwa bangsa Arab pernah mengikuti matrilineal. Misalnya, penyebutan ibu dalam sistim penulisan silsilah dalam perkawinan Arab pra Islam,<\/span><a name=\"_ftnref9\" href=\"http:\/\/syariah.uin-malang.ac.id\/#_ftn9\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"line-height: 200%; font-size: 12pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;\">[9]<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> cara penulisan biografi yang terkadang ditulis juga dari jalur ibu,<\/span><a name=\"_ftnref10\" href=\"http:\/\/syariah.uin-malang.ac.id\/#_ftn10\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"line-height: 200%; font-size: 12pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;\">[10]<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> dan cara penyebutan keluarga Nabi yang menyebut-nyebut nama perempuan dari jalur ibu dan bibinya.<\/span><a name=\"_ftnref11\" href=\"http:\/\/syariah.uin-malang.ac.id\/#_ftn11\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"line-height: 200%; font-size: 12pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;\">[11]<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-size: small;\"> <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-justify: inter-ideograph; text-align: justify; text-indent: 36pt; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: \"><span style=\"font-size: small;\"><span style=\"mso-spacerun: yes;\">&nbsp;<\/span>Lebih dari itu, <em>ahlul bayt<\/em> dalam doktrin Ahlissunnah wal Jama&rsquo;ah dan terutama Syi&rsquo;ah hanya diambil dari jalur keturunan Ali bin Abi Thalib dengan Fatimah bint Rasulillah, bukan dari katurunan Ali yang lain. Artinya, yang dimaksud dengan <em>ahlul bayt <\/em>sesungguhnya adalah keturunan Rasulullah dari jalur Fatimah. Karena pandangan ini, Rooded menyebutnya dengan sindrom Fatimah.<\/span><a name=\"_ftnref12\" href=\"http:\/\/syariah.uin-malang.ac.id\/#_ftn12\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"line-height: 200%; font-size: 12pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;\">[12]<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><em><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"MsoNormal\" style=\"text-justify: inter-ideograph; text-align: justify; text-indent: 36pt; margin: 0cm 0cm 0pt;\"><span style=\"font-family: \"><span style=\"font-size: small;\">Perlu dicatat, pengambilan sebagian jalur ibu yang disebutkan tadi, sama sekali tidak menunjukkan adanya sumber perasaan kekeluargaan dari jalur perempuan dan penghormatan pada perempuan, karena sumber utama perasaan kekeluargaan Arab hingga masa awal Islam tersebut tetap berpegang pada relasi peternal, sebagaimana kebanyakan masyarakat agresif lainnya. Sedangkan penghormatan kepada perempuan, yang sebagiannya tercermin dalam beberapa sastra Arab, merupakan ekspresi maternitas (sifat keibuan), dimana perempuan dihormati apabila ia telah menjadi seorang ibu.<\/span><a name=\"_ftnref13\" href=\"http:\/\/syariah.uin-malang.ac.id\/#_ftn13\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"mso-special-character: footnote;\"><span class=\"MsoFootnoteReference\"><span style=\"line-height: 200%; font-size: 12pt; mso-ansi-language: EN-US; mso-fareast-font-family: 'Times New Roman'; mso-fareast-theme-font: minor-fareast; mso-fareast-language: EN-US; mso-bidi-language: AR-SA;\">[13]<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"line-height: 200%; font-family: \">Reformasi Islam pada bangsa Arab ketika itu sudah dapat merekonstruksi tatanan sosial yang jauh lebih baik dibandingkan dengan masa sebelumnya dimana perempuan sama sekali tidak mendapatkan posisi terhormat.
